What’s in store for America?
Election Eve musings
God willing we will wake up Wednesday morning to Harry Truman like headlines that say
McCain/Palin Won.
More likely we will have a President-elect Obama who, regardless of his margin, is going to feel enormously mandated to force incredible change on us. Let’s review just some of what we know:
• He is very intelligent and charming but smugly and supremely arrogant. He, like all of the far left, knows that he is right and he must show us the way.
• His sparse record of political achievement does not have even one incident of partisan cooperation.
• Obama will have a filibuster proof Senate and possibly a super majority Congress. They will be able to do anything they want - and they will.
• He will have the power to stuff the Federal Appeals and Supreme Courts with liberal change agents and tort bar lovers. These and their contemptuous decisions are among the changes that will take on a dreadful permanency.
• Our energy mix is in for a shake up that, if taken to the extremes he has avowed, will impoverish us and make our nation look like a slowly blinking Christmas tree from space. Nuclear, clean coal and drilling will be all but lawyered breathless.
• Our foreign policy weaknesses will possibly have people wanting W back within Obama’s first term. He will seek a UN consensus that he will never get unless we adopt the UN’s craven, emasculated and timid postures. Remember, Russia and China have the Veto!
• It is hard to believe he will stand by and maintain a strong and up-to-date military.
• Our taxes will go up in order to provide tax reductions (read bigger rebates for those who pay nothing now) for the middle class
• Corporations will be under an attack dressed as reform but that will only hit middle class pocket books with a vengeance.
• It has not had much attention but Obama is virulently anti-gun in every respect as is most of the left. Expect the worst from them, led by President O. Hide your guns.
• Social entitlement programs of all sorts will either be expanded or invented anew.
• Health care a la Canada.
• Social Security and Medicare privatization or other meaningful reforms are out the window, thanks also in large part to mismanagement on Wall Street.
• The cumulative effect of Obama and the left on our economy could result in the end of growth and prosperity. If they succeed in making wealth a vice and need a virtue then the American Dream will really die an agonizing death.
Anyone of could expand this list. Let’s just hope and pray that McCain somehow pulls it out of the hat. Even that is a mixed blessing. Due to certain legislative domination by the left such an administration would be under even a worse siege than W has experienced, even though W rolled over for it in so damn many ways. McCain will not be able to get much legislation passed but it seems a certainty that we can count on him to use his veto power.
Those who have an adequate understanding of economics and our American heritage will be emasculated by Obama. Those who can’t tell a tort from a tart will be singing kumbaya even while not understanding why their lot in life keeps getting worse. And, for God knows how many years they will be blaming Bush for everything that happens.
Are we going to let them? It’s now time to start forcing change on our political system regardless of who wins tomorrow. We must truly hold the bastards accountable. We must do whatever it takes to restore and preserve our traditional America for future generations. Or those who can still read will certainly curse us.
With aching heart,
Dothan Dan

Terror & Hate
TOWARD UNDERSTANDING MUSLIM TERROR & HATE
(Try As You Might)
The first essay entitled Islam – a Non Politically Correct View is primarily reportage of facts concerning historical, cultural, religious and behavioral aspects of that religion. Informative as it might be it does not go far enough to help one understand the ‘inner’ Muslim. Perhaps nothing could. Nevertheless, this paper is a different attempt to describe the Muslim political and cultural mind set insofar as how they regard non-Muslims and their place in the world.
Is it Psyche?
Psyche is defined by Webster as, interchangeably, the Soul, the Self or the Mind of a person or body of persons. Let’s expand that definition to mean that which informs our core beliefs, behavior and reactions to the world around us. It defines us and is a nearly impregnable mask that cannot be penetrated or changed without extreme outside intervention or a soul wrenching epiphany from deep within. In simpler words it is what we are in a very fundamental way.
Western Ways
The western psyche can, in aggregate, be said to consist of considerably tolerant and open minds that are receptive to reasoned argument and accustomed to change and questioning while simultaneously being very used to living amongst challenge and doubt regarding one’s personal beliefs. Westerners can be quite firm in their beliefs and life styles while concurrently being quite able to live civilly amongst others who do not accept them at all. Variable external conditions are an every day part of western life and, for the most part, we adjust and deal with it all quite comfortably. We certainly have our idiots, jerks, bigots and radicals but they are a minor force in the overall scheme of western thought and culture. All in all, the west is a relatively pleasant and undemanding place to live assuming one can fill his basic human needs. In particular, all nations of the so-called west are clearly blessed with relatively peaceful and secular civic structures that are protected and arguably made possible by a consistently applied rule of law.
Hand in hand with this relative calm and security is a confusing but dangerous characteristic of westerners to refuse to see things as they are. Critics call this political correctness coupled with white guilt. Supporters call it cherishing diversity. By any name we have a cultural propensity to turn a blind eye to things that should horrify and even frighten us into action. Such things as honor killings; execution of gays; death by stoning; death sentences from religious leaders (Fatwas); and extreme anti-Semitism head up a much longer list of every day Muslim behavior that is mind numbing to western individuals. Collectively, however, we do not react strongly to it and we are increasingly accepting tacit accommodation of these practices within our own countries. Our governments fail to adequately condemn the religious and cultural source of such atrocities and, in fact, we welcome their people to live amongst us as if they were cherished family.
The Islamic Mind Set
Not so Muslims, especially for Islamic fundamentalists. In their rigid world the very opposite of western thought informs their cultural and religious psyche. Allah, through Mohammed as his last and final Prophet, or so they believe, established Islam as his vehicle to shape human life and law. He, Mohammad, then delivered to Muslims the Koran, given verbally by the angel Gabriel directly to Mohammed His Messenger, to reveal Islam’s only true written word. The Islamic religion allows no questioning or interpretation of the Koran, demands complete obedience to it and even has a set of religious law –Sharia - which is their basis for ordering human life and, indeed, is all that is needed for the only valid form of government - a Muslim theocracy. Muslims not only believe explicitly in the Koran as the unchallengeable guide to life and in Mohammad himself as the perfect person. It must also be understood – and herein lays an essential difference - that they do not accept that others even have a right to different beliefs. Thus, in spite of words about ‘People of the Book’, all others are still infidels to be converted or subjugated. This implacable difference and outlook compels Islam, in its fundamentalist form, to either convert or kill us.
It is extremely difficult if not impossible, therefore, for a westerner to comprehend what he is faced with in dealing with his Muslim counterparts. A person’s reasoning power seems inadequate. The westerner will expect comity in his relations with Muslims, and will even get it on a superficial level if such behavior serves some temporary Islamic purpose, but will eventually be forced to face the harsh truth that he is really held in contempt by the religion of his Muslim acquaintances.
What follows does a good job of clearly illustrating the twisted Muslim mindset. A Wall Street Journal Op-Ed opined about the paradox of why Muslims refuse to assimilate and always take such furious offense over imagined insults (Danish Cartoons) to their religion while western religionists can shrug off similar things (Piss Christ). The article resulted in letters to the editor that were, with one exception, strongly in support of the gist of it, i.e., why do they even come here? Most letters also pointed out that Christians and Jews do not riot or kill people who mock their religion; only Muslims do such things. The exception was a letter from a Muslim-American from which the following is a direct quote: “At stake isn’t whether the decision of Muslims to live in western society is theirs but whether a western society, such as the U.S., protects the religious rights of any group so that the citizens of that group have a right not to be offended by other groups.” What this Muslim is clearly saying is that western society must and will change to accommodate them and their beliefs and that our concept of freedom must be modified to suit their needs. Westerners believe that freedom of religion does not mean freedom from religion. Muslims believe this does not and cannot apply to them and so they seemingly lay an uncompromising obligation upon us and our legal systems to assure that they not be offended. Such an accommodation would not only spike our traditional and constitutional free speech, it would amount to a governmental preference of religious demands, heretofore unthinkable on the liberal left. Meanwhile, it is OK by Muslims and their western apologists that many Islamic nations officially deny non-Muslims the right to worship, amounting to the ultimate insult if you will, but in their minds this is not a part of their contract with the west. Muslims occupy a truly impenetrable one-way world.
It’s All About Freedom
Andrew McCarthy’s book, Willful Blindness, goes a long way toward shedding light on the almost inexplicable Islamic position on freedom. This is challenging to grasp but easy to say. There is no free will except to choose Islam or not because their fundamentalist notion of freedom is simply that we are free to submit to Islam or not. If one chooses Islam they are bound by its every word and sanctioned interpretation. In this circular thinking you are only free to become a religious sycophant. If you question or stray in any way you are un-Islamic and sinful. If you choose to reject Islam you are an apostate. Apostasy and infidelism are grievous sins. The former is punishable by death. Any nuance here must be looked at in Christian terms. Many Catholics regard confession as a matter of mental attitude and will not go to a Priest for absolution. This is so widespread that Catholic doctrine has come to accept it. Such a departure from Islamic Sharia would be beyond unthinkable.
In a related line of thought, obeying secular laws and elected or appointed leaders – government officials and police – is deemed equivalent to worship. Since only Allah can be worshipped, all secular governments are therefore heretical and should be destroyed. This is the rock solid basis of their rejection of western style democracy where citizens have a say in their government.
To be fair, fundamental Islamists long for the defeat of many of their own governments such as Egypt, Jordan and others for being secularly structured and for not following Sharia. Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Iran, Yemen and a few others are Islamic theocracies, to a degree, so they get a pass. Saudi Arabia, for example, is an Islamic theocracy and even has a governmental Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice. Its head sits on the council of government and it has its own police and courts. They deal with modesty dress codes, preventing unauthorized inter sex contact, non-Islamic worship and much, much more. They often beat people right on the street and can arrest and hustle people off to jail and interrogation. Court administered punishments can be severe. This is Sharia in practice and is what Muslims are free to choose but are not free to reject.
Hardliners in Charge, All Others Afraid
Considered in another light, Islam is dominated by fundamentalists and hard liners who speak for the faith in nearly all matters; internally to fellow Muslims and externally to the world of infidels. There is no official hierarchy or governing body in Islam from which guidance and continuity can be gained, for better or worse. What leadership that does arise is informal and is often the result of power struggles and even assassinations. The few at the unofficial top compete with each other for air time and implied authority. Regardless, though these unofficial leaders may be highly revered, every Imam and Mosque is a free agent, albeit under the Islamic umbrella. This void of central leadership may well be why literal interpretations of Koranic scripture are the backbone and primary guiding light of Islam and strongly suggests why Islamic culture is so backward. It also suggests a high level of theocratic discipline in spite of this lack of hierarchy.
Coupled with the Islamic requirement to be unyielding in the practice of their faith, the many millions of Muslims who might by temperament be flexible and reasonable are, in fact, caught up in a mass psychosis of subservience to a much harsher and more fundamentalist Islam. This is the fascist element of Islam and it is real, widespread and steadily growing. Any Muslim who speaks up about liberalizing or temporizing Islamic teachings comes under attack and is persecuted as being un-Islamic, a grievous sin. Being un-Islamic is equal to apostasy and that label can beget very serious consequences. In a recent 2008 TV interview Ayaan Hirsi Ali confirmed that she lives under 24/7 armed guard as do most Muslim apostates living in the west.
Looking in yet another direction, Muslims seem to better understand westerners insofar as our behavior, individually and as a society, is viewed by them as decadent and craven and, therefore, represents a weakness that must be both exploited to their advantage and ultimately defeated. Unfortunately, there are unsavory aspects of our popular culture that give them a legitimate argument. Judged by their incursions into western civilization on a very broad front and largely on their own terms, they have been very successful both in a physical sense as well as by making so many of us believe they are at peace with us even while they are spiritually at war with us everywhere.
No Good Choices
The West, or at least America, would surely mobilize against Islam on a massive, multi-front scale if only it had an adequate understanding of Islamic aims and core beliefs and were then intellectually able to regard them seriously. Although we must maintain a potent military force that can protect us as needed and project awesome offensive power, an appropriate counter attack need not be a violent or military one. Rather, it would best be a constructive but aggressive engagement with Islam on the broadest possible public relations and educational fronts using only the truth on a never ending but massive and coordinated scale. The notion of changing Muslim minds and forging a gentling of their religion seems an impossible task, and it may well be so, but we have no choice but to try in a very big and never ending way. If we fail to make progress with this mission we will eventually be faced with violent and destructive conflict from within. Muslim history, its oft repeated aims and today’s geopolitical reality all combine to reveal the danger to be palpable and terrifying in its implications. Muslims are not hiding anything and, in fact, are very open about their contempt for us and their religion based purposes for the non-Muslim world.
Military warfare is not the ultimate answer because, although we can prevail in any armed conflict, we cannot and should not kill 1.5 billion people. Power speaks to radicals but genocide, even to save ourselves, is unthinkable. We simply must prevail with ideas.
Yet, All Is Hidden
In a well funded (primarily by western oil purchases), continuing and successful effort to overcome the truth and manipulate western perceptions, Muslims engage in modern and sophisticated public relations efforts everywhere to cultivate a peaceful and benign image. It is important for us to always keep in mind that the Koran condones lying and deception to achieve ultimate Islamic world hegemony with a religious face. The Congress of American Islamic Relations (CAIR) is the most prominent example of the many organized and well funded practitioners of this massive and highly coordinated campaign that is specifically aimed at deflecting our collective attention. To this end they have been incredibly successful at forming and/or reinforcing benign western opinion and using our own legal and social systems to forward their interests to our great disadvantage. You are strongly urged to read Spencer and Steyn’s books if you need corroborating details. Preventing a realistic awakening of the traditionally liberal, tolerant and accepting mode of western thought is their precise goal. To date, they have been all too successful.
To The Future
Western Europe has taken this politically correct but self destructive philosophy that, at its core is an inordinate fear of appearing biased or judgmental, to suicidal extremes. Some social scientists have attributed this collective mind set to a deep sense of self guilt and national shame over incessant European wars ending with WWII, especially amongst Germans. That such things as the Holocaust were truly horrible will always be true but, unfortunately, this revulsion brings with it the tragically unintended consequence of paving the way for an eerily similar destruction of us from within that we have become increasingly powerless to combat. At the root of this cultural malaise is the realization that to combat it we will have to employ methods that are now very politically incorrect and, therefore, unthinkable to liberal elites; things like religious restrictions; curtailment of free speech excesses and the legal judgment that implies; strict, mandatory assimilation rules; strong national language policies; control and monitoring of school content; strong border and Visa controls; Work Visas that really mean work or leave; limited welfare and medical rights, etc. To date, western nations have not had the stomach or the political will to think in such terms, let alone enact them. As well, there are reasonable concerns that such moves impinge negatively on our guaranteed freedoms. To this I say perhaps so, but we are in a real fight for our survival and if we lose that fight these very freedoms will become a distant memory. So it is demonstrably better to make hard decisions up front than to entirely lose at the end of the day.
There are, as widespread research and observation support, growing predictions of an Islamic Europe in social, political, legal and economic terms that European elites are refusing to confront even with compelling evidence at their very doorsteps. America is traveling down the same road although we are, thankfully, still well behind them. If Europe does tip over into a true Eurabia will it happen in time to alarm America and wake us up? Let us hope so! Perhaps such a tragedy, if unavoidable, will deliver a convincing shock effect. There is still time for America to protect itself if we will only become adequately aware of the uncompromising ideological enemy at our doorstep and then, most importantly, collectively give a damn. If, in Mark Steyn’s words, we do become the last man (country) standing we will be uncomfortably isolated from a very hostile world that will probably include Canada. Such a geopolitical reality would have enough political and economic mass to have its way with us, especially if we still lack the will to fight for our survival.

Campaign 2008
Per the Reverend Wright, Politicians do what politicians do. They say what they and their handlers think they must say in order to get elected. At the end of the day, a candidate's history is the better gauge of what they will do than what they said while campaigning. Campaigning is about getting elected and has little to do with governing. In that regard why not just do an honest job of learning about the lives of both candidates: their concrete accomplishments, voting records, writings, policy positions and economic preferences before deciding on your important vote.

Obama Metamorphosis
OR BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR
Senator Obama captured the 'presumptive nominee' title by running true to his background as a far left liberal in the primaries - anti-war, pro entitlements, anti-capitalist, corporation bashing, tax raising and class warfare zealot. Having defeated Clinton by successfully garnering far left support, he is now dodging right so fast it makes your head swim. Truthfully, he needs to do this to win in November and will probably seduce far more independents to his side than the leftists he will now lose. Nevertheless, we are now being courted by just another ambivalent rain drop dodging politician rather than the romantic agent of change he was portrayed as.
McCain has changed his position on a few key things such as amnesty and drilling but these have come about amidst a plethora of hard facts and electoral anger. By and large, McCain is consistent albeit no conservative from the traditional trenches.
And remember, the only voters in contention are those in the middle who do not possess hard philosophical and ideological positions. Those on the far left or the far right will not vote for the other party's candidate under any circumstances. Implication? The election and its future consequences is in the hands of people who either don't care, are generally uninvolved or are easily swayed by last minute appeals. This does not build confidence in America's future diection.

Obama in - Clinton out!
We now are faced with a general election campaign featuring an unproven, young and charismatic Democrat who speaks eloquently about nothing - well, change huh? - against an aging maverick who is proven on national security - for it - and free speech - against it - and who speaks haltingly with a pedantic and sing songy and slightly nasal style.
This is a race not worth holding your breath for and when its over is when to start saving yoaur personal oxygen.
Good luck America - you are gonna need it!

Moral Equivalent?
Catholic Heirarchy has been justifiably condemned for being passive in the face of solid evidence about pedophile priests. Because of public exposure and being dragged to near financial ruin because of it they are at last strongly acknowledging the abuses and are painfully selling off Church assets to pay multi millions of damages. This has been a sad chapter in the North American Catholic Church; one that will require generations into the future before getting this stain wiped out, if ever. It would be like asking for the Inquisition to go away.
Similarly, for 20 years Barack Obama and, it must be said, many other black Americans in many congregations, have tolerated these anti American rants and outright stupidity and claims to victim hood. Whether or not Obama gains the White House in November, the damage done among American whites and sincere patriots in general will take a long time to heal. Platitudes, belated acknowledgements and weak excuses will not suffice. Most White Americans think full equality is actually here if blacks will only rise to the occasion. They will be welcome with open arms.

The Democrat Party Follies
So Hillary won by a 10 spread in Pennsylvania. She is a pit bull (actually complimentary in this context) and so the fight of the change agents will continue pitting the congenital liar (her) against the congenital avoider (him). Barrack is yet to cogently explain what he means by change and Hillary might as well say "whatever it takes to be President and have all that power". God help America because one of them is going to be the eventual nominee and, although America doesn't know it, we don't deserve either one.

Politics Never More Interesting
While McCain is temporarily hidden behind the Democrat smoke screen because of the lies and misteps happening every day, no real damage seems to be done to anyone - yet. Hillary has been steadily fading and so with more ferocity than ever she will tell any lie and skillfully evade any question to stay viable. Were she to be nominated, I believe the American people will strongly repudiate her in November. Meanwhile, Obama is getting everyone worried about what really lurks in his mind after all of his miscues and those of his rabid pastor. The same Pastor who speaks for the poor black man and who is retiring to a 10,000 square foot, $1.6 million mansion in a lily white neighborhood. He will run better in November than Hillary but is building ammunition for McCain's campaign to very legitimately fire at him.
This has to be the most interesting political campaign in modern history.

Democrat Quandary
It is tempting to rejoice in the extreme difficulties the Democrat Party is facing if it were not so bad for democracy and civility, not that that quality is important to the Dems and Libs when dealing with Republicans and Conservatives. Nevertheless, the following scenarios are possible.
1) If Hillary is forced to capitulate before the convention there will be a severe alienation of the Democrat's Feminist constituency. They will be very angry for sure but will it result in them staying home or, worse, voting for fringe candidates or even McCain? Do we know how strong their core numbers are? To some degree, middle of the road Democrats will be similarly affected.
2) If Obama is somehow forced out before the convention the anger and disappointment of the nation's black populace will be very strong and a definite loser for the Dems. It seems possible that civil disturbances will erupt over perceptions of discrimination; something the party simply cannot afford to let happen. At the least it will be damaging to race relations, such as they are now.
3) If the candidate race results in a brokered convention it will be bitter and divisive. The super delegate bloc will be in for incredible scrutiny and the best of outcomes for the Dems would be for Hillary and Clinton to team up on the ticket, an outcome that seems unlikely as of now. Failing that, the bitterness and divisiveness outlined in the first two points will still be with us, perhaps more so because of strong perceptions of back room deals among the super delegates and the candidates.
It is going to be interesting!

Those Darn Taxes
Democratic rhetoric on taxes and soaking the rich are tiring. Here are some facts and a web site reference you can validate.
http://www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html
Taxes under Clinton 1999 Taxes under Bush 2008
Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 30K - tax $4,500
Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 50K - tax $12,500
Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Single making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 60K - tax $9,000
Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 125K - tax $38,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250
You don't have to like Dubyah to see that his tax cuts have very much helped the middle class guy. Don't like his war? Fine - but don't lie or fantasize about taxes. Liberal Democrats are in your wallet.

This Crazy Political Season
The two Democratic candidates, Hilary Rodham Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama are a study in contrasts that are striking. These differences are primarily of style and personality.
We know Hilary better because of her relationship to former President Bill Clinton and her extreme visibility arising out of that. Hilary comes across with many negatives that are recognized within her own party and polling also shows that her negatives are very high. She is stiff, abrasive, self serving, a poor speaker, lacks spontaneity, can only talk with rehearsed talking points, a complainer and obviously willing to do anything to win - anything. The most recent example is that her campaign TV ads show Obama's image touched up to be darker than he really is, presumably in a subtle attempt to emphasize that black is a negative.
Senator Obama is growing in popularity because he has a refreshingly honest, positive and spontaneous approach to everything. He is a superb speaker and is as comfortable in an unrehearsed venue as he is with a teleprompter. Senator Obama appears to be a man totally at ease with himself and the world around him. Republicans will readily admit to his obvious likeability. The man simply has a rare level of self confidence and charisma that forcibly draws people to like him.
Philosophically, however, there is little or no difference between them. They both favor far left programs that are associated with the liberal left - higher taxes, national health care, strengthening the Tort Bar, trade protectionism, penalizing and demonizing corporations - particularly drug and energy firms. Much of what they support accelerates the ongoing dimunition of individual autonomy and responsibility for self.
What we get with one of them as President we will essentially get with the other.
What we are not likely to get in this campaign is wide spread awareness of the consequences of our votes. If Obama or Hilary can successfully transfer their stated beliefs into laws and federal programs what will it mean? If we quickly walk away from Iraq and a muscular approach to the middle east what will be the likely outcome? Where does Israel's security fit into this latter scenario? The next President, it is said, will likely appoint up to four new Supreme Court Justices. What sort of justices will Hilary or Obama appoint and what will be their impact on Constitutional law? How will a new President's tax and entitlement programs impact the present and future economy?
Within this post I am not going to suggest answers to the above. But for anyone who reads this I most strongly urge you to do some studious research in an effort to develop a well informed vote before you pull the lever. Let us all make sure we understand the consequences of our votes and avoid a 'feel good' approach. We owe it to our future. But please - do vote.

Candidate Selection Stakes
Political Talk. The Presidential nominating races are interesting but I want to comment on the Democrat side. Admittedly Obama is an appealing guy and I would love to see him walk all over the Clinton machine. I even feel like he is actually an honest guy, a true believer in what he says. He is a stirring speaker with wide appeal and will continue to stir emotions and gather support. On November’s Election Day, however, it won’t make any difference policy wise because there is no difference thicker than a sheet of paper between them. Here are some of the things we are faced with if there is a Democrat in the White House:
• Replacement of up to four Supreme Court Justices in the first four years of the next administration. If a Dem does the picking we will see law making from the bench on a very large scale as a result. The damage could irrevocably divert our country from its Constitutional moorings. In my opinion this is the single biggest danger we face over the long term
• A rapid pull out from Iraq with resulting chaos within Iraq, a cowardly defeat in the War on Terror and international disgrace for us as a dependable ally.
• A certain further weakening of our magnificent military. Remember, Clinton I reduced it by over 25% overall, trimmed our Navy by over 200 ships, reduced the Air Force similarly and cut back many arms renewal and upgrade programs.
• Compulsory National Health Insurance and all the baggage that goes with it
• Higher taxes, specifically rolling back the Bush tax cuts and restoring the death tax.
• Steady progress back towards entitlements and the welfare state
• A higher tax and lower benefits solution to Social Security and Medicare rather than private accounts you own.
• More empowerment of the tort bar
• Impetus to currently pending bills to 1) create comparable worth wage controls, 2) Extreme expansion of sexual discrimination bans and 3) specific bills to overturn recent Supreme Court decisions like limiting damage caps in lawsuits. All of this is co-sponsored by Obama, Clinton and Kennedy and more.
• And much more.
I can’t help but believe that many Democrat voters would not vote that way if they had an ample understanding of what is at stake instead of going with pure emotion. Sadly, we build parties and campaigns around personalities and charisma and lose sight of what comes in behind it.
If we stay home because we don’t like McCain we are essentially casting a vote for the Democrat. The same reasoning in reverse applies to a Democrat who might stay home because they don’t like their candidate.
That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it. But do vote.

Immigration Issue?
The Democrat and Republican Primaries are narrowing down a disappointing field in both parties. Not a single candidate with a chance to be on the November ballot has taken a clear stand on illegal immigraion. They have abandoned moral clarity and America is the worse off because of it. We should all tune in and make them speak up. They are holding off because, no matter what they personally believe, it is a sensitive issue and they might lose votes or supporters. Do you really want elected leaders who are too politically timid to speak their honest convictions or to act on them for the sake of votes?

Economy vs. Iraq
Interesting. The surge, led by Gen. Petraeus, has been a tremendous success. So much so that the liberal media is silent. Actually, they are succesfully changing the subject to the economy and we simply are not hearing of the Iraqi quagmire anymore. Of course, no matter how well our effort goes over there the Iraqis eventually have to do it themselves. The question is - will they be succesful? That remains to be seen but it sure seems that we are giving them the opportunity.
As for the economy, we do seem to be in or on the brink of a recession. The same thing was verifiably happening in Clinton's final months yet the media tried mightely to give him a pass. They even resorted to accusing Bush of crying wolf before he was inaugurated. We now know Bush inherited a mild recession and it was dealt with quite readily on top of the economic damage cause by 9/11, the costs of the wars and Katrina.
Now, with a recession coming in Bush's last months the libs are painting it as a disaster of Bush's personal making and the Democrats are needed to save us and the world. This is transparent and illogical but it is also an election year. Lying is good and facts are bad. By the way, the amortgage industry wreckage does not need federal help. Let the market deal with unwise borrowers and even more unwise lenders. They are the ones responsible.

Understanding the U.S. Constitution
Another writer posted in the newspaper was a school teacher with a Hispanic name who was frustrated with funding for English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction, his teaching responsibility. Mind you, his state spends more per student for ESL than any other state but yet not enough according to him. His reasoning for more, and I quote, "It is our constitutional right to an education". This is pitiful and ignorant thinking for multiple reasons. First, the U.S. Constitution is totally silent on the matter of education. It is not codified anywhere or even hinted at. As such there is no such 'constitutional right'. Because of this silence the matter of education is implicitly a state or local responsibility and totally up to local control and funding. There may be state level constitutions that determine education as a right and a governmental responsibility and there may be others that are equally silent. But it is very clear that the U.S. Constitution does not guarantee and education for anyone. Second, funding is a legislative responsibility. Individual citizens can support or oppose anything but funding is a matter for our elected lawmakers. That a secondary school teacher is so ignorant of our basic rights does not augur well for the overall quality of our public school systems. Lastly, he is inferring that education, because it is some sort of right, should receive unlimited funding. This is bizarre. No - it is stupid. God help our schools.
Taxation
A local paper recently featured an Opinion Letter from a reader who seemed to be suggesting that the rich ought to be taxed based on their net worth. Now there is a lovely thought. The so called rich already pay for everything - as follows; the top earning 5% of tax payers provide 60% of all income tax receipts and the top 40% pay 99% of tax receipts. The bottom half pay nothing and a large portion of those actually get checks for Earned Income Tax Credits (welfare as a reverse tax). So how shall we tax net worth?
- Forced sale of a portion of their investments?
- Forced downsizing of homes over prescribed standards? (a home market killer)
- Auction their collectibles and valuables?
- Allow only Chevy Malibus and outlaw BMWs?
- Place an arbitrary limit on Net Worth with anything over going to the feds?
- For those whose earnings come solely from invested assets shall we confiscate a portion every April and consign them to diminishing income as a result?
- And, lastly, what do we do about the colossal drop in tax revenues that will result?
Such a scheme would have Marx & Lenin celebrating in their graves and Fidel Castro would want to live a few more years just to see the American economy fall to the same level that is enjoyed by Cubans.
